Hero China 60s Communist Era Parker Slimfold Clone Rare
For over 60 years, hooded nibs have been associated with quality. Since its first releases in 1941, ParkerĄ¯s landmark 51 fountain pen has earned a reputation for neat mythic design and performance.
With its cleanly hooded nib, sleek barrel and slip cap, the 51 took the market by storm. Whether vacumatic, the Aeromatic or the rare UK cartridge converter model, the 51 holds a prodigious volume of ink, a quality universally appreciated and praised by writers. Because of its revolutionary collectors, the 51 rarely leaks, this during an era when many pen manufacturers, even makers of quality pens still relied on unreliable rubber ink sacs. In the early 1960s, Parker released the Slimfold Fountain Pen. The Slimfold is the smallest member of the Duofold range and is often regarded as a lady pen. This week members of Yi Cheng Trading went To Canton in China to search for vintage fountain pen made during the Communist Era of 1960 ¨C 70s and found a clone, a resemblance of the Slimfold with a twist. This Slimfold Clone has a school boy reservoir about its hooded nib to show the remaining ink. Obviously this was not found in the original Slimfold. What a clever addition. This clone measures 11.4cm with a slip on cap. It is fitted with the "aerometric" filler and a iridium tipped hooded nib. It clip and cap ring is fully stainless. This is what I found from my test of this pen.
My first squeeze and release of its aeromatic pump sucks in a full amount of ink, this is a surprising fact because it performs even better than a real parker, where I need to press and release several times to get a full refill of ink into its pump. Then an even amazing fact of this pen is its smooth wet writing performance, it write like a solid gold nib and no slips at all. You will be astonished how in the world can the communist china in the 60s produced such a wonderful pen. This maybe the last lot the remaining slimfold made in the Communist Era!
