| Rare Faber Castell Parifix Calculator Slide Rule
This is a Faber Castell Parifix Slide Rule No 20/68 pated DBGM1711733 that has been stored for a long long time, The rule is in good condition but the paper covering it has rotted as seen in the photo.
Instructions:
The Parifix is a new calculator for conversions of American, English and metric weights and measuring units. The corresponding values can be read off a tabulation.
Its application is simple and in no way complicated.
Along both edges of the front the PARIFIX calculator runs the cm-scale and the inch-scale, as on all ordinary scales. On the left side, after the cm-scale, come the following 3 scales: ft, m yds. All three graduations are related to one another.
Example. Place the cursor line on 31.50m, The equivalent value is then 34.45 yd or 103.5fy. It shows that 31.50 m are equal to 34.45 yd or 103.5ft.
With the above example we have shown how the PARIFIX works and we have explained the relations between the sides.
On the reverse side the range of scales is continued. The method of application is the same as outlined in connection with the graduations on the upper face. Beginning form the left are the Pound and sh/d scales.
Examples: Place the cursor line on 0.321 on the pound scale and you will find sh 6/5 on the sh/d scale or set the cursor on sh 7/8 and you will din 0.383 Pound.
The subdivisions of yje pound scale give also the values for cbm. The corresponding graduation to the cbm partition is the cu/ft scale, the third from left.
Examples: 0.91 cbm are equal yp 32.12 cu.ft or vice versa 17.30cu ft are 0.49 cbm.
Further scales pm yje reverse sides of the PARIFIX are kg, Ibs – Imp gail. Usgail, Itr.
On the right edge are frequently used fractions(for screws, guages). The equivalent decimal values can be read off on th left cbm scale.
Example 3/16 = 0.186
There are some advantages in obtaining exactly results which will soon be noticed:
The decimal point can be moved, so that either 21 kos = 46.3Lbs or 210 kos = 463 Ibs can be read off.
For better determination of the Ibs value of 8.6 kos, the cursor is placed on 86 kos and the result of 18.96 is to be corrected by changing the decimal point.
